Church Of Christ members from the Ecclesiastical District of Southeast California conducted an Aid to Humanity event at Vista Del Mar Middle School, Chula Vista, California on October 30, 2020. This activity, which was held in collaboration with the Felix Y. Manalo Foundation, Inc., benefited students from the San Ysidro School District and their families who are struggling to afford basic essentials.

Mr. Humberto Gurmilan, school board president, said, “We have a community that has a high number of families that are struggling. Our district has a very low socio-economic level. A lot of these families are homeless.” He and other faculty staff members were present in the event.

Spearheaded by the district supervising minister, Brother Serginio Bayani, the ministers, ministerial workers, and select Church officers and brethren distributed goodwill bags, which contained food and school supplies, such as notebooks, pens, folders, and pencils.

Grateful, Mr. Antonio Martinez, board vice president, said, “Inviting us here, [I’ve] seen these 400 bags that you will be distributing to our kids in need, the students in San Ysidro … from the bottom of my heart, I just want to give each and every one of you, all the volunteers that are here today, thank you for the support.”

On behalf of the school, Mr. Gurmilan said, “This type of event just provided a lot of hope and another opportunity to know that there is a support out there, that they can actually overcome such a challenging situation. I’m very impressed and impacted by the hard work that all the volunteers are doing. Well-organized. I can see the smile through the face masks, everybody is doing it with such love and dedication that it not only encourages and inspires the community but also us as leaders in the community. I’m so grateful for this opportunity.” ― With reports from INC News Section
